The unsung heroes of Film and TV part 16. Fiona Shaw

Fiona Shaw

A face we probably all recognise but how many of us know her name. Hands up, I didnt until a few months ago. I knew she was Irish but for some reason knew nothing about her until she turned up in some awful comedy I found myself watching on Netflix one night. Fiona has had a serious career and one that has been on stage, and TV and in film. A real all rounder.

She's been a witch that was racist against vampires. Been a Muggle 4 times. Been tortured by a little ginger Demon. Helped 3 men look after a little lady. Was involved in the most famous unsolved murder in Hollywood history. Been in the really really bad Avengers film. Took part in the best Terence Malick film of the 21st century. Spoken the words of Charlotte Bronte, Leo Tolstoy and William Shakespeare. Worked opposite Orson Welles. Sort of. And she's just about to play one of Ireland's most famous women - Countess Markievicz. All this and she was in the Super Mario Bros movie but we won't hold that against her! Check out her career here

Greatest Hits

The Left Foot. Dr Cole, the object of Christy Brown's affections and the woman that helped make him world famous.

The Butcher Boy. Mrs Nugent, mother of Philip and target of the vile Francie Brady. Ends up scattered all over Clones town.

The Black Dahlia. Ramona Linscott. The woman who (fictionally) murdered Elizabeth Short.

Harry Potter (numerous films). Aunt Petunia. The dirty muggle. And not a nice one.
