Quentin Tarantino's second best* film starts with 3 minutes of our heroine travelling through an airport in profile with Bobby Womack's Across 110th Street playing over her. She's cool, calm and collected but willing to push herself to get what she needs. A quality used to great effect later in the film. A brilliant introduction to our lead character and a cracker of a re-introduction for Pam Grier too. The heroine of 70's blaxploitation back in a lead role after 20 years combined with one of the quintessential struggle songs of the era. A perfect match of sound and vision.
Tarantino as usual does his "homage" thing but he always does it well. The lovely funky 70's style titles. And the fact that the scene is basically robbed from The Graduate. Give it a watch below.
Deadly ain't it. Just ignore the Miramax logo at the start.
*His best film is Reservoir Dogs btw. Fight me.
