It's here. A horror fan's favourite time of the year. The 1st of October. 31 days in the spooky season and as good an excuse as any to watch 31 horror films. A nice blend of new and old, watched and unwatched, English language and foreign.
The Lady In White - This ghost story terrified me as a child. Fingers crossed it still does.
Julia's Eyes - A Spanish horror that Guillermo Del Toro was involved in that I know nothing else about. Del Toro tho = quality.
The Lair Of The White Worm - Ken Russell. Vampires. Dildos. Phallic monsters. Amanda Donohue. Awesome.
Onibaba - Have had this Japanese horror on my shelf for a decade and this month it shall be opened. I hope.
Just Before Dawn - A truly underrated slasher film that goes for proper tension instead of gore.
Event Horizon - The film that proves that horror films can be set in space. Fuck u film twitter.
Zombie 5 : Killing Birds - No idea. I picked this one for the title.
Snuff - Video Nasty time. Fingers crossed it's better than the last time I watched it.
A Hatchet For The Honeymoon - Another horror from the Iberian peninsula that's new to me.
Captain Kronos : Vampire Hunter - Swashbuckling Hammer horror. A wicked combo.
The Serpent And The Rainbow - Wes Craven's voodoo horror is still one of the scariest film's I've ever seen.
The Night of The Seagulls - Spanish knights of the templar rise from the grave to kill pretty folk. I mean it sells itself.
The House Where Evil Dwells - Doug McClure. Samurai ghosts. Giant monster crabs. Exorcisms. It has everything.
Deadly Friend - The film where Mrs Fratelli from The Goonies gets her head crushed by a basketball thrown by the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer is always worth watching again.
Friday The 13th part 6 - The film where the franchise truly embraces stupidity and oh its so much fuckin fun.
Love At First Bite - Dracula. The 70's. Disco. My brother and me loved this as kids so time for a rewatch.
Dark Water - Japanese horror ala Ringu I may have watched while heavily stoned years ago.
The Werewolf And The Yeti - Fuck Godzilla vs King Kong. This Paul Naschy monsterfest is where it is.
Zoltan : The Hound Of Dracula - A 70's take on the story, filmed in that weird American period where even daytime scenes were terrifying.
Phenomena - Arguably Dario Argento's last great film. Icky but deadly.
The Grapes Of Death - Jean Rollin + pesticides + grapes = homicidal wine drinkers. How could it be bad?
The Female Vampire - Jess Franco. Lina Romay. This one has to be seen to be believed.
Zombie Lake - Nazi zombies kill beautiful people around a lake. What is not to love.
No one Gets Out Alive - A new netflix horror. Haven't a clue.
The Other Hell - Nunsploitation courtesy of Bruno Mattei. Expecting subtlety and empathy here.
The Woman In Black - ITV horror at it's finest. A genuinely unsettling film.
Beyond The Door II - Beyond The Door III (Amok Train) rocked so much I have to watch part II now.
Aenigma - Lucio Fulci rips off Brian De Palma's Carrie in his inimitable style.
Stagefright - Michele Saovi & Joe D'Amato take on slasher films should be fun. Should being the operative word.
The Addiction - Abel Ferrara's take on vampirism is a stunner. An absolute stunner. Plus Annabella Sciorra.
Grim Prairie Tales - A horror western for Halloween. My two favourite genres clash extremely successfully and Brad Dourif is the gravy on top.
