Posters Ghana style

Back in the day before the African nation of Ghana began to thrive again the only way to watch a film there was to go to one of the local mobile cinemas which consisted of a generator to fire up the projector, a portable screen, a VHS player and a van to transport everything. Film posters didn't exist to attract an audience so local artists were commisioned to create posters based on their own interpretation of the film, whether they'd seen them or not. Painters like Nyen Kumah, Joe Mensah, Frank Armah, Leonardo, Socrates, Death is Wonder and D.A. Jasper created some absolute stunners. You might laugh at first but there's a certain beauty and charm at play here.

First up - someone's very literal take on Jim Jarmusch's unique 1999 gangster film.

The alien in the artwork for Aliens was stolen directly from the VHS cover of Roger Corman's Galaxy Of Terror.

What do you get if you cross Stallone from Cobra with Kurt Russell from Big Trouble In Little China? You get Tango And Cash of course.

This one is just......

Spoilers ahoy in a poster for 2001 : A Space Odyssey. It manages to make one of the most overrated films ever made look exciting.

The artist here captured Connie Nielsen perfectly but the less said about Russell Crowe the better.

The Oldboy poster goes straight for the jugular and ends up looking like a particularly vicious Jacques Cousteau story.

Michael Jackson and facehuggers. There were drugs involved in the creation of this classic piece of art. A lot of drugs. Mixed together.

A creation as scary as the film it's advertising. Except for comedy MacCready at the bottom.

One - There was no boobs in Predator
Two - The alien here is far far scarier than in the film.
Three - At no point is Arnold Schwarzeneggar ever that clean in the film.
Four - That said, it really looks like Arnie. Kudos.

This one is pretty decent actually. Apart from the snake. Where did the snake come from? And the claw?

Alien is a great film. But one thing would have made it even better. A cat that shot lasers from it's eyes. And this poster gives us that very thing. Awesome.

The best was kept for last. The film of Mrs Doubtfire shows us the lengths Robin Williams will go to for his children but impaling someone through the eye with a broom handle was probably a step too far. Unless it was a deleted scene on the DVD?

Each and everyone of these are better than the bland shite we get over here.
