It's not my favourite horror film (that will always be Dawn Of The Dead) but I rewatched The Texas Chain Saw Massacre last week and jesus there's a film that will always set your nerves on edge. It's primal stuff, fucking terrifying in places. It's horror appears out of nowhere and leaves you gasping. There's no music building up to a shock here, just a surprise sledgehammer to the head and a door slammed shut. And all in daylight too, under the blazing Texan sun. Barely a thimbleful of blood is spilled in the entire film and yet it was banned on video in Ireland and England for decades. I can only imagine the impact it must have had on 70's cinema audiences raised on Hammer horror.
The 2022 version though. Fuck right off.
