30 Day film challenge 2022 edition - Day 15

Least favourite book adaption. Dog Eat Dog. Definitely. The book was a brilliantly lean and concise look at an ex-con getting out of prison and instantly falling back into his old habits because it's all he knows. Written by Eddie Bunker, a man who knew a thing or two about prison life, it's reeks of authenticity. So they made it in a Nicolas Cage film, replete with his trademark quirks and tics and jesus christ it was awful. Not even Willem Dafoe playing one of the leads could save it. It took everything that was good about the story and pissed on it, and worse, tried to glamourise a story that couldn't have been more anti-crime if it tried.

Look at that line on top of the poster. "From the creator of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull."

Paul Schrader, how the mighty has fallen.
