Big screen Bond

The local cinema is showing every Bond film starting with Dr No starting from next Wednesday. I'm over the moon. I've seen them all since Licence To Kill in the cinema and now's my chance to catch the rest on the big screen. Little Nelly from You Only Live Twice. THAT pigeon doubletake from Moonraker. A BLIMP SNEAKING UP ON A WOMAN in A View To A Kill. Bambi & Thumper from the otherwise godawful Diamonds Are Forever. The best car stunt ever filmed from The Man With The Golden Gun.

Oh man I'm so fucking giddy. I shall be seeing them all.

bollixed

I'm so tired these days I can't even watch a film.

What is happening?

Is this what being in your 40's is?

A constant dose ache and pain and no desire to do the stuff you love?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Fuck it.

I'm going to make myself watch something I love.

Ahhh yeah, that's the stuff.

Pints

Meeting up with one of my oldest and best friends on Thursday for one or two quiet ones.  Haven't seen the chap in nearly 3 years because of cunting Covid.

The plan.

The reality.

Friday.

When memes hit home

Yup. I've a hard drive with nearly 400 films on it that I've never seen and all I want to watch tonight is Tremors. Gritty 70's cinema courtesy of Larry Cohen and John Cassavetes, a LOAD of Korean action, Ingmar Bergman classics, 30's and 40's screwball comedies from the golden age of Hollywood, lost long horror films from all over the world, Japanese crime thrillers that are guaranteed to be flat out assaults on the senses and all I want is GRABOIDS!!

It's not the worse problem in the word in fairness.

Fuck off January

If January were a film character it would be Billy Batts.

We all know what happened to him.

So long you shitbag of a month.

Withdrawals

Over the past three weeks I've watched forty episodes of Yellowstone, a modern day western about ranchers in Montana and their battle to hold onto their land as modernity encroaches on them. I couldn't stop. It was so good. A show that felt like it was made with me in mind. I fell hard for the stories, the characters and that glorious scenery. One episode was never enough, ah sure I'll watch another one, go on, there's loads more to go.

And then there wasn't. I finally caught up. This is why I hate binge watching. This part. Waaaaahhhhhh. Now I've to wait until next year for more like a common shnook. I asked for spaghetti and marinara sauce and I got egg noodles and ketchup.

Mi español no es bueno pero la película fue divertida.

I've been doing using Duolingo to learn Spanish for the bones of 8 months and in my head I'm not too shabby at it so this evening I decided to watch a Spanish horror film about a murderer in a cinema called Red Screening without the subtitles to see could I follow the film.

I could follow the film no hassle.

But I could barely understand a word that was said.

It seems there's a difference between understanding words on your phone and understanding sentences screamed by terrified people being chased by a knife wielding killer who wants to cut out and eat their eyes.

Back to the drawing board.

That said the film was fun. So at least 90 minutes of this rainy miserable day weren't a total write off.

2 weeks. Jaysus.

Between 2 weeks in Roscrea for Christmas and a fear of going to cinemas cos...well....*everything* I've just realised I haven't watched a new film in over 14 days. The usual binge watch of old favourites has pushed everything else out of the way.

Oh no.

I'm cold.

I'm feverish and shivering.

I've pains in places where there shouldn't be pains.

I've a huge headache.

It's not covid though, it's just withdrawals.

Feliz Navidad

Happy christmas to the 5 people who'll see this. Ye make my little hobby worthwhile.

December 19, 2021

ugh

Got the booster yesterday. Happy days.

Woke with a bit of a sore arm this morning. All good. Nothing a few paracetamol won't chase away.

12 hours later. It now feels like i walked 10 miles and when i got home someone hit my legs with a hurl. Joyous.

Fingers crossed this is as bad as the side effects get.

Now to self medicate with a film.

Or two. Just to be sure.

Being easily pleased is the best

Nice finds in CEX today. A masterpiece for four smacks and The Matrix for a fiver. Aint seen this one in 20 years so it's time to refresh the aul memory before the newest installment arrives next week. I walked out of the Matrix Revolutions in the cinema in 2003 and good jesus I hope the new one isn't as full of cod philosophy as that piece of shite.

Spiderman : Far From Home was watch and thoroughly enjoyed on Limerick's best screen with (thankfully) only about 20 other people.

The pint of plain. One of Ireland's simplest pleasures. The first one in a couple of months. God it looked good and tasted better.

Been having a few nice days lately after a couple of shitty months. Nothing too big or special but a grand mix of little bits and pieces. Fingers crossed it stays going like this. Being easily pleased is a godsend.

A treat

I just love a handful of new films. Gives me a little buzz everytime.

Retail therapy does work. Who knew??

Sometimes you just have to

Me right now

Cosy in bed. The Office (US version) on the TV. How could you go wrong sure.

Bleugh

When you've had a really cunty week the best thing to do is dig out an old fave, one where you know every word, every song, every story beat, one that will not disappoint you, stick it on, lie back and let it flow over you.

It's great medicine. Two hours where you just switch off, zone out and forget.

Because real life is a load of balls sometimes.

Leave it in the past

I'm watching a vampire comedy film on youtube called Love At First Bite starring George Hamilton as Dracula. Years ago I taped this off the TV and me and my brother watched it over and over again and loved it so as part of the #31daysofhorror viewing challenge for October (which I'm failing miserably at btw) I decided to revisit it.

The films you love as a child are, with rare exceptions, shite. This one ain't an exception. I've somehow blocked out all the badness and turned one funny moment into my entire memory of the film. It's so bad I can't stop watching it.

Help me.

When life gives you lemons make sure they ain't oranges.

I slept this afternoon like a fool.

This is me tonight.

But

It might just be the night for my yearly rewatch of part 1 and part 2.

When life gives you lemons etc.

Maxx

Here's to the best place in the world.

I went to the cinema twice this week. One was a dreadful film I walked out of after 45 minutes and the other was the most entertaining blockbuster I've seen in quite a while.

But TBH I just love going there no matter what's on. To use the modern parlance, it's my safe space. It's 2 hrs where the outside world doesn't matter a fuck. You don't have to worry about money, ill relations or scumbag viruses. You just switch off and concentrate on what's in front of you. My favourite part is when the trailers are over and the lights finally go down. The film hasn't started yet so it could go anyway.

What's your favourite part of the cinema experience?

A bit of self care

First time inside a pub since March 2020. So excited i took an upright picture. For shame.

My word. It's cream. It's the beer version of the first time you watched The Godfather part II

The danger zone. When its that beautiful that your mind automatically starts thinking about another. It's like Netflix nudging you towards another episode when you're still watching the first one.

Just look at it. Worth waiting for as John Mills said at the end of Ice Cold In Alex.

All good things come to an end. Will the sequel be as tasty?

Yes it was.

31 day movie challenge for the summer months - Day 24

Star Wars? Rocky? Rambo? Alien????? Once Upon A Time In China???? Kickboxer? Universal Soldier! China O'Brien!!! Ahhhh what a fucker of a question. The Godfather maybe but part 3 is a dud so maybe not. The Man with No Name trilogy isnt really a series....

BOND! Of course. What else could it be. 25 films. 20 of the are good/great. That's a serious batting average.

My place of worship

Some people go to church for a sit and a quiet think.

Others sit under a tree by a river with a fishing rod and zone out.

Some lie in a park and look up at the sky.

Others go to a gym and punish themselves.

Me. Im happy as a clam right here.

Ahhhhhh #contented sigh
