Platoon. A war film about a young private torn between his two superiors and their hate for each other. In the midst of battle the psychotic Sergeant Barnes shoots Sergeant Elias and leaves him for dead. But during their helicopter retreat a badly wounded Elias shows what hardy stuff he's made of.
It's operatic, totally overblown and there's an argument to be made that it's guilty of glorification of battle but that doesn't stop it from being a cracking juxtaposition of sound and vision. The music is Adagio For Strings by Samuel Barber.
