Well? What is it?
You've had a muck day. You missed the 8am bus. Your boss tore strips off you the second you walked in the door. Work seemed to pile up and up all day making you feel like Sisyphus pushing that rock up the hill. You miss the bus again at 5pm. 50 metres from home you step in dog dirt. You walk in the door and realise you forgot to take the dinner out of the freezer. FFFFFUUUUUUU.......... There's no point in getting thick though. What will it achieve. You plop down on the couch. There's nothing on. You scan your dvds or netflix or whatever. Then you see it. That perfect watch. The one film you know will make you feel like Cameron Poe getting his first breath of fresh air in a long time.
What's the movie you go to when you've had a headmelter of a day?
That one you know you'll enjoy. The one you'll zone out during and not have to worry about concentrating on the dialogue or following the story. The one where you know every beat of the story and every single line of dialogue.
We all have em. The cinematic version of a warm fleecy blanket wrapped around you. The visual equivalent of comfort food. Some love an aul easygoing romcom, a fact Virgin Media One seem to thrive on with their umpteen showings of Dirty Dancing every month. Westerns are a fave also. Just look at the afternoon schedules of Film4 and TCM. Silly action seems to be a hit too. Anything that isn't too taxing on the aul noggin.
For me it's the Godfather. It's not my favourite film (it's close though) but it's a go to one when I've a headache, work has been a bastard or life is generally muck. It's a 3 hour break away from the world. A film I know will never disappoint me. I can just lie there and let it wash over me as I mumble that beautiful dialogue along with the actors onscreen. "Khartoum....Khartoum."
Ah jesus I love it. The next 2 hrs and 55 mins are going to be sweet. This is going to be better for me than any solpadeine.
