Another unsung hero of Film & TV - Chris Mulkey

Rocking that Twin Peaks mullet

Chris Mulkey's been in everything. Everything. You'll hear the name and the first thing that will come to mind is an aul fella living on the Westmeath/Longford border but when you put a name to the face you'll realise you've seen this actor in a thousand and one different films and TV shows and have been doing so for over 40 years now. Chris Mulkey though. It's not the flashiest of names is it though. But you know what, fuck flashy, solid and consistent is always better and that's what he built a 5 decade long career on.

Before his film career took off he was shot in Korea and treated by Hawkeye and Trapper John in M*A*S*H. He was beaten up by Charlie's Angels and arrested by Baretta, made life tough up on Walton mountain and got chased across the highways of southern California by John and Poncherello. Then a grizzled Vietnam veteran walked into a small Oregon town and the film roles started pouring in. Walter Hill called twice in quick succession and a few years later he was cropping up all over Hollywood before nailing a big part in one of the best and most underrated sci-fi movies of the 1980's. After that film work became a nice mix of smaller indie flicks like Gas, Food, Lodging interspersed with supporting roles in some pretty big films like Cloverfield but TV was never left behind and since the late 80's he's turned up in every American TV show you can think of. Blossom, Walker - Texas Ranger, 24, Better Call Saul, Twin Peaks, JAG, Touched By An Angel (!!), Thirtysomething, Agent Carter, Lost. As mentioned earlier, he's been in everything. Everything. Check out his magnificent career here

Greatest Hits

First Blood - Deputy Ward, the poor bastard who walks right into one of Rambo's mantraps.

The Hidden - Jack DeVries. Host to a killer alien in the of the 80's most exciting thrillers.

Mysterious Skin - Mr Lackey. A heartbroken father to a boy with a horrible secret.

Friday Night Lights Coach Bill McGregor. Coach Taylor's bastard replacement. A real boo-hiss role.

Captain Phillips - John Cronan. Crewman under Phillips. Stress personified and brilliant at it.

Boardwalk Empire - Boss Frank Hague. A slimeball politician in a town full of time. Loved an orgy.

Whiplash - Uncle Frank. One of the very few decent people in a film full of bastards. A great performance.
