The story of Chiron, a young African American man struggling with his identity in Miami during 3 formative stages of his life. Barry Jenkin's 2016 drama is an astonishing watch about alienation, sexuality and what exactly it means to be a man. Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders and Trevante Rhodes all do fantastic work and supporting turns from Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris will blow you away.
The Drop Sat 12/10 Film4 @ 21.00
A quiet bartender in a mob run bar in Brooklyn finds his life getting very complicated when the place is robbed & when he becomes involved with his neighbour. A low key thriller that's smart, funny, exciting and full of well developed characters. Tom Hardy is good and gets very decent support from Noomi Rapace and the late James Gandolfini. Quite different to your usual mob film & all the better for it.
She's Funny That Way Sat 12/10 TG4 @ 21.15
Albert's directing a play. His wife Delta is the star. Albert has also promised the starring role to a call girl, Izzy, he's been seeing because Albert is a dope. Chaos ensues. This is a Woody Allen film without the Woody Allen. It's light, it's breezy, it's morally loop de loop and it's filled out with an amazing cast that includes Owen Wilson, Kathryn Hahn, Jennifer Aniston, Imogen Poots and Rhys Ifans amongst others.

A bigoted white prison guard falls in love with a black waitress in the American south and an unknown past connection makes things even more twisted for them. A desperately grim film but a beautifully acted one about the horrors of racism, inherited hate and fatherhood. Stunning performances from Halle Berry, Billy Bob Thornton and Heath Ledger.
Dark City Sun 13/10 TCM @ 23.10
John has woken up in a place he doesn't recognise, his memories are lost and he's being chased for a crime he didn't commit. He must now enter a strange world to solve his problems. A dark, scary, inventive and (at the time) very original slice of sci-fi that will keep you glued to the screen. Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly and William Hurt all put in a good shift.
10 Things I Hate About You Tues 15/10 Comedy Central @ 21.00
Kat hats no time for men. Her sister Bianca loves them. Cameron is mad about Bianca but Bianca can't go out with boys until Kat does. Cameron is in a bind. Enter Patrick Verona. This teen movie reimagining of Shakepeare's The Taming of The Shrew is an absolute joy. It's so much fun and for all you soppy folk there's a big romantic heart here too. Julia Stiles and the much missed Heath Ledger do great work here.
Maniac Wed 16/10 The Horror Channel @ 23.05
Frank owns a mannequin shop. Frank's a strange guy. Frank gets even stranger when a young artist asks for his help and dark desires come bubbling to the surface. Elijah Wood stars in remake of the infamous 1980 original and turns in a genuinely creepy performance in this unsettling, surreal and at times nauseating look at the madness bubbling around inside the minds of men.

Carl used to own a restaurant until a confrontation with a food blogger went viral. Now he's on the road with a food truck, his son and his best friend and he's trying to fall in love with cooking again. This Jon Favreau starring, written by and directed comedy drama is a lovely watch and one you'll want to enjoy with food beside you because you will be starving during it. Seriously, be prepared. Stockpile tayto's.
The Handmaiden Thur 17/10 Film4 @ 23.00
Japan. The 30's. Sookee is hired to be the handmaiden for heiress Hideo. Sookee has an agenda but she hasn't counted on the bond that forms between her and her lady. Chan-wook Park's romantic thriller is an erotically charged and utterly absorbing watch. It's long but it will pin you to your chair. Tae-ri Kim & Min-hee Kim as the leads doe splendid work.
You're Next Fri 18/10 The Horror Channel @ 21.00
Erin's a new face at a family reunion in rural Missouri that suddenly turns nasty when masked men interrupt proceedings. Adam Wingard's home invasion thriller is a blisteringly violent watch but it's one laced with plenty of dark comedy to ensure you'll enjoy the ride. Sharni Vinson and A.J. Bowen have a whale as the leads in this deliciously warped look at family dynamics.
