Harry Brown   Sat   9/6   RTE2 @ 23.20

Harry is an elderly ex-marine who lives on a housing estate that has been ruined by drug dealers. One night he suffers a loss and decides not to look the other way anymore. Michael Caine is absolutely convincing in this well paced and gruelling thriller that might be too much for some. Emily Mortimer, Liam Cunningham and a terrifying looking Sean Harris all give good support.

Made In Dagenham   Sat   9/6   BBC2 @ 23.45

In 1968 in a northern England car plant, women decided they'd had enough of financial and sexual discrimination and went on strike. A very entertaining film and one that's both excellently acted and very timely in telling a story that's sadly ongoing 50 years later. The cast is a who's who of English talent including the always reliable Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins, Andrea Riseborough and Daniel Mays.

Casablanca   Sun   10/6   RTE1 @ 13.40

Classic movie time. Humphrey Bogart plays Rick Blaine, a nightclub owner in World War 2 era Morocco who has his finger in a number of pies. When an ex-lover appears it throws him for six. This is one of those famous movies that lives up to the hype. You'll recognise scenes and dialogue even if you've never seen it. Ingrid Bergman and Bogie are at the top of their game here. Oh and the Marseillaise scene is an all time memorable one.

Legally Blonde   Sun   10/6   ITV2 @ 19.05

Elle Woods is taking her break up badly and decides to pursue her lost love to law school. Whilst there she realises she's a lot stronger than she thinks. Don't judge this film on appearances, it's actually a genuinely enjoyable film full of hidden depth and a sly bit of subversion. Reese Witherspoon is a great lead and gets good back up from Selma Blair and Luke Wilson.

Starred Up   Sun   10/6   Film4 @ 23.40

A young man finds himself bumped up to an adult prison when he becomes too much to handle in his youth detention centre. A cracking film with a career making performance from Jack O'Connell as an initially vicious little fecker who you come to empathise with as he lays his demons bare. Dark and intense but peppered with a touch of humour, this is really worth a watch as long as barrages of 4 letter words don't bother you.

Death Race   Mon   11/6   ITV4 @ 22.00

In the near future (actually 2012!) prisoners with life sentences are forced to take part in murderous armoured car races for the entertainment of the masses. One man decides to buck the system. Add a ridiculous concept, a dash of carnage, a fun Jason Statham performance and a barnstorming one from Joan Allen as a prison warden and you get a very agreeable 2 hrs of crash, bang, wallop.

During a robbery group of thieves find a VHS tape and decide to watch it. On the tape are 5 different tales of terror. This is one for horror fans only. It's pretty disgusting in places and quite hard to watch in others but if you are a fan of the genre you'll love it. A struggling rancher accepts the job of getting a wanted criminal to a train on time but the criminal's gang has other ideas. The original and best version of the tale, this 1957 film is a far more down to earth and believable tale than the remake and has a better cast too. Glenn Ford as Ben Wade makes for a fantastic anti hero and Van Heflin as Dan once again shows how good he was at playing salt of the earth characters. A true western classic

The Flag   Fri   15/6   RTE2 @ 21.30

When Harry finds out the flag his Da raised in the 1916 rising now resides in a barracks in London he sets out to get it and his friend Mouse comes along for the ride. A rip roaringly funny Irish film that, like all Irish comedies, manages to be hilarious one minute and capable of making you cry the next. Pat Shortt, Moe Dunford, Ruth Bradley and Brian Gleeson all have a whale of a time here.

Gone Girl   Fri   15/6   RTE1 @ 21.35

On the day of the wedding anniversary a woman disappears off the face of the earth and suspicion falls on her husband. Is he guilty? David Fincher's adaption of Gillian Flynn's best selling novel is a good one. A stylish film, full of darkness and twists and turns that you won't see coming at all if you haven't read the book. Rosamund Pike, Ben Affleck and Carrie Coon are all give A+ performances and really help sell a pretty silly but entertaining tale.

The Wolf Of Wall Street   Fri   15/6   CH4 @ 23.40

Jordan Belfort was a scumbag who ripped people off all over America in the 1980's and 90's selling ropey shares. Amazingly Martin Scorsese has managed to turn his story into a brilliantly funny and compelling tale about the dangers of greed and egotism. Leonardo DiCaprio is on fire in the lead role and gets great support from Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill and John Bernthal. Not for the easily offended.
