The films scenes that never get old - Man On Fire

"Do you think god will forgive us for what we've done?"

"No"

12 words can paint a massive picture.

A small but important moment in a great (imo) film. John Creasy is an ex-mercenary with a chronic alcohol dependency struggling with finding suitable work. He takes a trip to Juarez to visit a friend, Ray, he used to work with and all his problems are made abundantly clear with one sentence. Without being explicit we now know that Creasy has done some bad things in his life and what he's seen and done has obviously left it's mark on him. The life of a merc isn't a pretty one.

Denzel Washington and Christopher Walken just sell the hell out of this scene don't they. Two men with stained souls who see no chance of Heaven. One who can make a kind of peace with what he's done and the other who can't. Creasy is a man who needs to redeem himself and when he becomes a bodyguard to little Pita later in the film he gets his chance. And he grabs that chance with two hands.

I miss Tony Scott. I wish he was still making films.
