Game Of Thrones S05 E05 - Kill the Boy
Greyworm has survived the Harpy attack but he's in critical condition. Missandrei is standing watch over him. Ser Barristan Selmy however was not so lucky. He has succumbed to his wounds. He went out like a champ though.
Daenerys is heartbroken. She's lost her friend and her most trusted advisor now that Jorah is gone. Things are not looking up for the mother of dragons. She's pissed off, really pissed off. Someone has to pay for this.
Daario wants to sweep and destroy. Daenerys has another plan. To round up the leaders of Meereen's families. They know who's behind the Harpy attacks. The leaders are brought before the 2 chained up dragons. One is burnt to a crisp and devoured. The others are terrified and then they are all imprisoned until someone gives up the info.
The news of Daenerys troubles in Meereen has spread fast and even Sam at the wall has heard of them in a letter delivered by a raven. He tells Maester Aemon who is her only living relatives. But he's old and blind and has no chance of helping her, a fact that saddens him.
He can help Jon though when he arrives looking for advice. He needs the Wildlings as allies but he knows his men will freak out if this happens. Aemon tells Jon that only he can choose to do the right thing.
Jon's next port of call is Tormund who's still a prisoner in the castle. Jon knows Tormund has the respect of the Wildlings but getting him to change his allegiances will be a tough ask. Jon offers to let the Wildlings settle south of the wall in return but it seems the vast majority of them have headed to a settlement called Hardhome to regroup.
Jon uses reverse psychology on Tormund, calling him a coward and then taking off his chains. Tormund's head is wrecked. He's not used to actually conversing with Night's watch men. Tormund offers to go to Hardhome with Jon. He'll protect him while Jon talks to the Wildlings about his plan. Jon's the only person who'll be able to sell this plan.
The men of the Night's Watch are understandably angry about this plan. Weeks before they were fighting the Wildlings and now there's going to be a truce. They lost friends to them, brothers, little Olly lost his Mam and Dad. Very few in the room agree with him.
Olly pleads with Jon. He saw his entire village decimated in front of him. Irregardlesss Jon decides to go ahead with his plan. Oh man theres are going to be some big ramifications from this.
Brienne and Podrick arrive at an Inn a stonesthrow from Winterfell. She's here to get Sansa. Brienne finds a man in the Inn who's still loyal to the Starks. She arranges to get a message to Sansa. If she lights a candle in Winterfell's tallest tower, Brienne will ride in and rescue her.
*Gratuitous nudity klaxon* Ramsay's girlfriend Myranda is jealous of the fact that he's going to marry Sansa. Ramsay's matter of fact answers about Sansa's beauty enrage her even more. This is a woman who's not to be trusted. We've already seen what she's capable of during Theon's torture.
Brienne's message is rapidly conveyed to Sansa. Her relief is palpable. Myranda comes across her looking up at the tower. The same one Bran was pushed from btw. Myranda brings her to see the kennels. She's acting nice. Way too nice.
In the kennel is Reek. Sansa still knows him as Theon and is horrified by his appearance. He's absolutely mortified that she's seen him like this too. How things have changed for both of them.
Theon informs Ramsay that Sansa saw him. He grovels even though he did nothing wrong. Ramsay acts like he's going to punish him but forgives him instead. This fella loves the mindgames and he has Theon destroyed, physically and mentally. It's hard to watch.
Roose Bolton's wife Walda asks Sansa if she likes her new surroundings. They aren't new surroundings though, its her home. It's the people in her home that are new. This dig isn't lost on Ramsay. He won't forget it.
At dinner Ramsay has Theon apologise to Sansa for killing Bran and Rickon. Both Ramsay and Theon know they are still alive but Sansa doesn't it. More of his mindgames. He's a fucking cunt. I can't wait to see him die horribly.
Theon is then asked to give away Sansa at her wedding. Ramsay's cruelty knows no bounds. But his cough is softened when Walda announces she's pregnant. Ramsay is going to have a new sibling. One with a claim on the north that could threaten Ramsay.
Roose smugly announces it's going to be a boy. Now it's a definite threat. Ramsay's whole demeanour changes. You can the ticking in his head. Sansa is pleased to to see him unhappy. Little does she know he's going to just take out his anger on her.
Later on Roose assures Ramsay that his position won't be threatened, that he has nothing to worry about. He tells him of his mother and how he took her. Ramsay is a child of rape. But Roose took him in. He makes it sound like Ramsay should be grateful. These people are vile.
He then asks for Ramsay's help for when Stannis Baratheon rides for Winterfell. Ramsay, now feeling like he owes his life to his father promises to stand by his side. I cannot wait to see them wiped off the face of the earth.
At the wall Sam is reseaching the White Walkers. His aim is to one day be a Maester. He has the brains for it. Stannis rocks up with questions about Dragonglass, the substance Sam used to killed a White Walker.
He has questions about both dragonglass and the walkers. Sam's one of the few who's seen the army of the dead. Stannis looks down on him because he's not a soldier but he respects his bravery and his knowledge.
Stannis then informs Davos that it's time to march on Winterfell. Davos wants to wait for Jon but Stannis is impatient. He's decided to bring his wife Selyse and his daughter Shireen too. The wall isn't safe enough for them. But battle is. Huh.
Davos informs Shireen they're in for a tough time. Her mother is more realistic with her. She's a nasty piece of work. Jon and Stannis say their goodbyes. Stannis think's Jon is off on a fool's errand. Before she heads off Melisandre gives Jon a meaningful stare that unsettles him. It's like she can see into his future and what she's seen isn't good.
Days after the attack Greyworm wakes up. He's still in pain but he's ok. The news of Selmy's death upsets him greatly. He blames himself for his death and that of his men. The only way Missandrei can make him feel better is by kissing him. Yay. Finally. A tiny sliver of happiness.
Later on Missandrei comes in handy again when Daenerys is trying to figure out what to do about the family heads imprisoned earlier. She's at sea with Jorah and Selmy gone. Missandrei's words inspire her next tough decision.
She meets with Hizdahr zo Loraq, who's also been imprisoned as a family head. She'll give into him and reopen the fighting pits. Hopefully this will stop the Harpy attacks. She'll also marry him to help peace to flower in the city.
Jorah and Tyrion are still sailing towards Meereen. To get there quicker Jorah takes a shortcut through the ruins of Valyria. A dangerous maze of pirates, sickness, death and riddled with people afflicted by Greyscale, a nasty disease that slowly turns your skin to stone. Overheard Drogon flies by, amazing Tyrion. His first dragon.
His amazement some vanishes when they are attacked by Stonemen, people near death from Greyscale who've gone cannibalistic. The disease is transferred by touch so the fight is a careful one until Tyrion falls overboard in an attempt to flee their hands.
Jorah finishes them off and rescues Tyrion from drowning. All is looking well until Jorah realises he's been infected. And it's a disease that takes hold fast.
I'm really liking Season 5 so far. The pacing issues of Seasons 2,3 and 4 are nowhere to be seen yet. There's loads going on but we don't seen to be spending as much time flitting between stories which is always welcome. It's good when not every story has to be touched upon in every episode.
