Game Of Thrones S03 E02 - Dark Wings, Dark Words

Bran's dreaming again. He has legs. Man i do not enjoy Bran's storyline one little bit. Plus he's grown rapidly since we last saw him. It's unsettling. He's hunting that three eyed raven. Jon and Robb are there. Needling him like older brothers do.

Then a new fella turns up. Telling Bran he is the raven. What? Im baffled. He wakes up to Hodor and Rickon and Osha. They are still heading north. It's a long aul stroll to the wall.

Robb is looking moody. He has plenty of reason to. Two letters bearing bad news. His Grandfather, Catelyn's Da Hoster, Tully has died and worse, Winterfell has been decimated by the Iron Islanders.

Catelyn is heartbroken. For her Da but mostly because Bran and Rickon are missing. The poor Starks. Never get it easy.

Theon meanwhile is tied up somewhere unknown and getting some finger torture. The Iron Islanders obviously abandoned him when they did a legger from Winterfell. Things don't look good for him. They never do.

Jaime and Brienne are still walking to King's Landing. This storyline feels as interminable as their journey. I wish she'd just kill him tbh. He's a melt.

Along the way they meet a farmer who doesn't seem to recognise them. Jaime is suspicious and wants him dead. Brienne's a decent skin who won't kill on command. I've a feeling she'll regret that.

At King's Landing Joffrey is being a twat. Nothing new there. His wedding to Margaery Tyrell is being planned. Joffrey likes her. Cersei isn't quite sure. Margaery's humanity baffles her. Joffrey ignores his mammy as usual.

Shae warns Sansa about Littlefinger (ugh). Sansa is a dope though and assumes his interests in her are innocent. Oh Sansa. Listen to the worldly Shae please.

Sansa gets a lunch invite. Margaery Tyrell and her granny Lady Olenna. Olenna rocks. She's hilarious. Old age has turned off her filter totally. Sansa is happy for the first time in an age. Until Olenna asks her about Joffrey and the rumours of his cruelty.

She tries to be nice about him but it's plain to see on her face. The chap is a bollix. The wedding will go ahead though. The Tyrell's want one of their own as queen.

Robb's army is marching for River Run. Catelyn's family home. Her fathers funeral is to be attended. Robb's bannermen are frustrated seeing it as a distraction from the Lannister battle.

On the journey Catelyn and her new daughter in law Talisa have the chats. Catelyn talks of her kids. And of Jon Snow. And how she feels her hatred of Ned's bastard Jon damned her family to suffer.

Speaking of Jon, he's up north and on the move with Mance Rayder and the Wildlings. Mance is still wary of Jon so needles him about his killing of Qhorin. Jon's responses slowly start to convince him. Jon's an outcast. So's Mance. They've plenty in common.

Jon meets Orell. Orell's a warg. A man who can project his mind into that of animals so he can spy far and wide. Hmm. That reminds me of Bran's dreams. Does that mean that Bran is a warg.....?

Orell has seen strange things. The aftermath of the attack on the rangers by a white walker army. Jon's ex brothers. Killed in their hundreds. He's a lucky man he wasn't there.

The remaining Rangers are still heading towards the wall. Sam is getting desperate grief from Rast who blames him for not being fast enough to warn everyone. The grief is making him want to give up. His buddies Grenn and Edd help him out though. They aren't all scumbags.

Bran is dreaming. Again. Zzzzzz. Osha is on the look out though. She knows someone has been following them. Who could it be? What could it be? Its the fella from Bran's dream. It this still a dream? Nope he's awake. The fella is Jojen Reed and he's brought his sister Meera too. He's a seer. So is Bran, according to him. They have a job to do.

On another road north we catch up with Arya, Gendry and Hot Pie. Other people catch up with them too.  A gang of men led by someone called Thoros Of Myr. Arya's bravery impresses him. They bring the trio for grub.

They are the Brotherhood without Banners. A group sent to fight Gregor Clegane back when Ned Stark was Hand Of The King.

In King's Landing Tyrion is still fearing from Shae's life. Still hiding her from Tywin. Shae's not being careful. She's worried about Sansa and tells Tyrion of Littlefinger's advances. Ros has informed her well. Tyrion is now worried about Sansa too and Shae gets jealous. Poor Tyrion. In trouble whatever he does.

Joffrey's questions his wife to be Margaery about her marriage to Renly Baratheon. He needles her about the non consummation of their marriage. Of course he's homophobic too. No surprise there.

She soon turns the conversation around. Stroking Joffrey's ego. He's being played like a fiddle and he hasn't a clue. Haha. Oh man she's some piece of work. Just like her granny.

Theon's still being tortured. I hate these scenes. Nasty, exploitative, truly unnecessary. Still no idea who these torturers are though. Ok, this is weird. Im starting to feel bad for him. What a strange feeling.

Someone offers him freedom. Someone claiming to be a friend of Yara. A glimmer of hope for him maybe?

Bran and Jojen talk of seers and wargs. Bran's dreams finally make sense to him and sort of to us. Finally. He's powerful but doesn't realise it yet.

Arya has grub in her belly and the Brotherhood without Banners are pretty fun hosts. She doesn't trust their questions though so plays it cagey. They like her moxey though and let them go after feeding them.

That is until more Brothers turn up with a prisoner in tow. A bound Hound. Sandor Clegane. Sandor knows Arya and tells everyone who she is. She's going nowhere now.

Jaime and Brienne are still walking. Good jesus. Ok, Jaime's got hold of a sword. Hopefully Brienne will kill him in self defense. This should be good. Two skilled warriors. Nope it's very dull. Surprising.

Just as Brienne bests him they get captured. By a man named Locke bearing the flag of the Bolton's and the farmer Brienne declined to kill earlier. Her mercy has backfired on her.

A dull episode punctuated by a few fun moments and the introduction of some very solid characters, chief among them Olenna Tyrell. I'd happily watch her talking for the full hour.
