Game Of Thrones S03 E04 - And Now His Watch Is Ended

Jaime Lannister is rattled. He's lost his land. The hand that held the sword that made him so famous and feared. Brienne is worried. He looks like a man who's lost the will to live.

Locke and the men of House Bolton couldn't give a shit about his well being. They're a nasty bunch and make Jaime look like a good guy. That's some going. I still don't feel sorry for him.

Tyrion rocks up to Varys' gaff. He needs to know for certain if Cersei planned his assassination during the battle of the Blackwater. Varys truly doesn't know. For once he's in the dark. But he has other things on his mind.

Now we get some Varys backstory. He's a eunuch and the man who castrated him decades before has just been made his prisoner. Varys might seem gentle but he's not a man to be trifled with. He has used his pain to rise up and up and up until he was a man of power.

At Craster's keep the Nights watch men are having a literally shitty time. They are sick of Craster and his demands. Rast wants out. The others do their duties grudgingly but his words are ringing in their ears.

Gilly is enjoying her time with her newborn son but she's terrified of what Craster is going to do with him. Sam tries to talk to her but she's scared of him too. Or what Craster will do if he sees them talking.

Bran is dreaming again. Or warging as we've found out. His new buddy Jojen is teaching him the full extent of his powers. His mother is haunting his dreams too.

Podrick has become the subject of a lot of King's Landing gossip. His "special talent" is the talk of the town. Even Varys wants in on the chat.

He gets his info from Ros who also tells him that Littlefinger (ugh) is headed to the Eerie to marry Lysa Arran and that he may be bringing Sansa Stark with him. Ros is spilling too much info. I hope she's being careful.

Joffrey is busy filling Margaery Tyrell in on the sordid history of King's Landing while Cersei and Olenna Tyrell get to know each other. Joffrey is being fooled but Cersei is still wary of the Tyrells. She wouldn't be Cersei if she wasn't.

Margaery impresses Joffrey with her depth and understanding. So much so that she manages to convince him to meet some common folk. This is definitely new for him but he does so for her. Oh man he's under the thumb now.

Cersei is not one bit happy about this. NOT ONE BIT.

Theon is still on the run with the man who rescued him. This fella is pure mysterious. What's his angle? While on their way to Yara, Theon comes clean about his loyalties. He now feels himself to be more of a Stark than a Greyjoy and what he did to Winterfell is haunting him.

Theon is brought to meet his sister. Wait a minute. This room looks familiar! It's the room he was tortured in. He's been tricked. The fella who rescued him was playing him for a fool.

At Locke's camp Jaime won't eat. He wants to die. Brienne is having none of it. He needs to get strong. He needs revenge. Her words stir him up. Gwan Brienne. This is her way of saying thank you for him saving her from Locke's men.

In Tywin's room Cersei discusses the Tyrells and their manipulation of Joffrey. She also speaks of Jaime. She's worried if Tywin knows the rumours of her and her brother. Tywin is more bothered about Joffrey's behaviour and sees the Tyrell's as a calming influence.

Varys and Olenna Tyrell meet up for a bit of gossip. A brilliant scene of verbal sparring between 2 superb characters ensues. Her interest in Sansa interests him. And he's here to warn her about Littlefinger and his interest in Sansa. If Robb's war fails, having Sansa with him could seen him take the North. That gobshite over the North? No way.

Margaery meanwhile is making friends with Sansa. She's happy to have a friendly face around. Margaery wants them to have a future, for Sansa to travel with her. When she's queen she'll allow Sansa to have freedom. And be married to her brother Loras Tyrell.

At Craster's keep the men of the Night's Watch burn a fellow ranger who's passed away from an illness. They've had enough of the North. It's killing them all slowly.

Karl insults Craster and and Rast joins in. It all kicks off. Craster goes mad and Commander Mormont tries to calm everything down. It's all gone too far though and Craster attacks. He's no ranger though and dies with a blade in his neck courtesy of Karl.

Mormont is horrified and promises vengeance. Rast knifes him in the back. One of the best men in the North has been murdered by his own. Jon Snow won't like this.

The men of the watch rip into each other. It's mayhem. Brother against brother. Men driven scatty by hunger vs men enraged by the death of the man who faithfully led them for years.

Sam legs it out the door, grabs Gilly and her baba and they take off, away from the bloody chaos surrounding them. Rast promises to butcher Sam when he finds him.

The Brotherhood without Banners have brought Arya and Gendry to meet their main man, Beric Dondarrion. The Hound is there too. He's going to be made pay for his murders. He claims all his killings were ordered by the King.

Arya pipes up about his murder of her friend, a mere boy. The Hound is sentenced to trial by combat. He'll be taking on Beric. Beric doesn't look like much but I've a feeling he has a few tricks up his sleeve.

In Astapor Daenerys is finally about to get her army of Unsullied. Jorah and Selmy are wary, neither are certain of what her plan is.

Daenerys looks confident though. As does the Astopor slave owner who's about to get himself a dragon. The slave owner gets his what he's owed. She gets the whip that controls the Unsullied. With this whip in her hand they will do whatever she asks without question.

In Valerian language she slags her off to her face, laughing because she can't understand him. But she does understand. All too well. He really should have been nicer to him.

In Valerian she commands her dragon to burn the slave owner and the Unsullied to kill their slave masters and take the city. It's spectacular. We finally get to see what dragons are capable of. Jorah is in awe of her.

You do not fuck with Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Mother Of Dragons.

Now that was a brilliant episode. That ending. Wow. We finally see Daenerys as a force to be reckoned with. Loads of intrigue and action. More like this please.
