Game Of Thrones S04 E10 - The Children

Jon Snow aka the dope, is heading beyond the wall, all by himself to find Mance Rayder. I've no idea what his plan is. I don't think he has one tbh. He's soon surrounded by Wildlings and brought to meet the man.

Oh wait, he does have a plan, he says he's been sent to negotiate but he's on a suicide mission to take Mance out. Mance is no fool and cops it right away. They drink to Ygritte.

Jon wants Mance to go back north. He wants to use the tunnel wall to escape the coming White Walkers. They come to an impasse. There's nothing left to do now but take a swing.

Jon makes his move and fails. Mance looks pissed. Jon is goosed. But he's saved by a blast of a horn. Something is coming for the Wildlings. Is it the Walkers??? Is it the Night's Watch????

Nope, its boring ass Stannis Baratheon. Where the hell did they come from??? They cut through the Wildlings like butter. Men on horses will win everytime. Mance's forces are quickly decimated.

Stannis and Davos rock up to Mance's position. He's a smart man, His men have suffered enough. He's resigned to his fate and he surrenders. Jon Snow makes himself known. Stannis asks him what Ned Stark would have done with Mance. Jon speaks of mercy and Mance is taken prisoner instead of being executed. Good man Jon.

In King's Landing Qyburn is treating The Mountain who has somehow survived his wounds which were inflicted on him by Oberyn Martell before his death. He's poisoned though and will die. But Qyburn and his mad scientist ways has other, darker plans for the elder Clegane. Cersei has given the nod to the experiments too.

Cersei is still kicking up a stink about her arranged marriage to Loras Tyrell. Tywin says is a done deal. She's his only child who can marry and increase the family coffers. Thats some A+ fatherly love and concern there. All he cares about is dolla bills y'all.

She has a plan. She'll come clean about that fact that her brother Jaime is the father of her children. The scandal with ruin the Lannister's and strip them of any respect. Tywin couldn't cope with the loss of face. Cersei knows this and walks out.

Right into Jaime's room where she tells him she loves him. Even though he raped her beside their son's dead body. I dunno.

In Meereen Daenerys is still up to her tedious business of dealing with the city's problems. Man alive her storyline blew donkeys this year. You could have covered it all in 30 minutes. The freed slaves are unhappy. They've gone from slavery to poverty. She never thought about this side of it all.

Another big problem rears it's head too. Her dragons have killed a child and burned it's body. They've become too dangerous to be let roam free above the city.

The only solution is the cage them, a solution that breaks Daenerys' heart but they are wild animals. She chains up 2 of them, Drogon, the child killer is still free and missing.

At the Wall, Maester Aemon is overseeing the burning of the dead. Stannis's wife and child are watching it all alongside him. Melisandre the witch is there too and keeping an eye on Jon Snow.

Tormund is imprisoned and raging about it. He can tell Jon's time with the Wildlings has turned him some what. He implores him to bury Ygritte and not burn her as is the custom of their people. Jon, still broken over her death agrees. Good lad. It's sad to see him say goodbye to her.

Further north Hodor, Jojen, Meera and Bran are looking for the tree from Bran's vision. Please let them find it. They've dragged the living fuck out of this storyline.

Just as they find what they are looking for they are attacked by things. Not exactly White walkers, more like walking skeletons. Skeletons with knives! Feck! They look like trouble. The things are swarming everywhere.

Bran wargs into Hodor and fights back. His fists turn them to dust. Jojen is gutted in front of his sister Meera and more dead attack while Bran is warging. Just as they reach him they get blown to bits by some sort of magic grenades thrown by a young girl. WHAT IS GOING ON??

She leads Bran and Hodor into the tree while poor Meera cradles her dying brother. He'll be no loss, he was a shite character tbh. He dies and Meera follows Bran. The dead chase after them but some kind of mystic forcefield shreds them as the enter the tree. Nope, i haven't a bulls notion.

The girl leads Bran further into the tree and here they meet an old man sitting amongst the roots. He's a mystical fella called the Three Eyed Raven. He's been watching Bran all his life. He tells him he'll never walk again. But he will fly. Hmmm. Superbran?

In the Vale Brienne and Pod wake up to find their horses gone. They'll have to walk to find Sansa now not knowing she's gone. Coincidentally they come across Arya and The Hound who've just left the place. Brienne is the first woman warrior Arya has seen. You can tell she's impressed.

Brienne sees the Hound, recognises him and realises who Arya is. Her oath to protect the Stark girls kicks in. The Hound finds out she works for the Lannister's and things get tense fast. He assumes she's there for the bounty on his head. Swords are drawn.

It's an immensely dirty fight. Kicks to the balls, kicks to the fanny, headbutts, bites. It's vicious. Both are equal fighters but that bite the Hound received has weakened him and Brienne eventually takes him down. Arya is nowhere to be seen after the scrap and Brienne and Pod reluctantly depart.

Arya's still there though and goes to check out the still breathing Hound. He asks her for the sweet release of death but she won't give him the satisfaction. She walks away and leaves him to die. I wonder will we see him again?

In King's Landing Tyrion waits in his cell for death. He hears his executioner coming. But no, wait, it's big Bro Jaime coming to get him out. There's a ship in the bay ready to get him out. They say goodbye and Tyrion sneaks through a tunnel to get out.

On the way he encounters Shae. But.....she's in Tywin's bed. What? What a betrayal. She lied in court to get him executed and now this. She lunges at him with a knife but he manages to kill her first. Christ, its a rough scene to watch. Forced to kill the woman he loves. Poor Shae though.

He's had it. He's sick of his Da. Enough is enough. He finds Joffrey's crossbow, arms it and find Tywin sitting on the bog. He aims it but Tywin dones't think he has the balls to do it. He slags Tyrion and dismisses Shae as a whore. An arrow bolt pierces his guts. He dies on the shitter. What a way to go. Tywin was a bastard but he was a great character. I'll miss him.

Tyrion finds Varys for help and Varys promises to smuggle him out of the city. Then hearing the city bells clanging after Tywin has been found, he decides the get the fuck out of dodge too. Smart man, he'll go far.

Arya meanwhile has found a port. She wants out of the South. But no ship is sailing that way, only to Essos. She remembers something told to her by Jaqen Hagar a long time ago.

She still has the coin he gave her too. And she uses it to buy passage to Braavos. There she can learn how to become a better killer.

A very solid season finale. A couple of big deaths and loads of stuff set up for Season 5. 40 episodes down. Only 27 to go. And then the final 6. The end is getting very close indeed.
