Game Of Thrones S05 E03 - High Sparrow

In Braavos Arya is working in the house of black & white. This isn't what she signed up for. She wants to learn how to become a killer, a faceless girl. What good is sweeping going to do her?

She watches Jaqen Hagar give water to a sick man. She's baffled by all the goings on and demands Jaqen teach her the ways of the faceless men. He gives her the run around, telling her she must earn her place here. It's like Mr Miyagi and Daniel San all over again.

The water drinking man is dead. People come to the house to die, to avoid an agonizing death. It seems the faceless men offer mercy as well as murder. It's a strange aul place and everyone ignores her questions, even a young girl the same age as her.

In King's Landing it's the wedding day of Margaery Tyrell and Tommen Baratheon. They are married in the Sept of Baelor in front of an angered Cersei. That night the marriage is consummated. It's creepy stuff because Tommen is only a teen and Margaery is easily 10 years older than him. Margaery's manipulation of Tommen starts straight away.

She wants Cersei out of her hair. She wants Tommen to send her back to Casterly rock, the Lannister ancestral home. He mentions this idea to Cersei and she swats it down right away. She knows full well who's behind the idea.

Later while gossiping with her handmaidens Margaery boasts of Tommen's bedroom enthuasiasm. Cersei overhears it but Margaery is the queen now. She can't do or say anything to her. Non stop digs are fired at Cersei. I've never seen her so helpless. This will not be forgotten.

Ramsay Bolton is rebuilding Winterfell and adding his own decorations, flayed bodies. Him and his father Roose talk at dinner about not having the strength to hold the North alone. Ramsay wants to rule by fear and his penchant for violence disturbs his father.

Roose wants to build an alliance with another family to build their strength. He wants Ramsay to marry a northern girl. In fact he has one in mind. Oh jesus, it's going to be who we think it is aint it.

Yup, Sansa. God. Herself and Littlefinger (ugh) are approaching Moat Cailin, he stronghold taken by the Bolton's. Littlefinger tells her she is to be married to Ramsay. She's horrified. Roose Bolton murdered her brother Robb. .Littlefinger manages to convince her she'll be able to get revenge on the Bolton's from within. She agrees. Shit. This will be bad.

Podrick and Brienne are following them in secret. They both talk about how they came to be in this position in life. Podrick was caught stealing but his highborn position saved him from hanging and his punishment was to be a squire for Tyrion.

Brienne talks about being a Kings Guard for Renly Baratheon. She devoted herself to his protection only to see him killed by a shadow with Stannis Baratheon's face. Since then she's vowed to get revenge on Stannis.

Up at the wall Stannis wants to know if Jon Snow will leave the Night's Watch and take the North back alongside him. Jon turns him down. He's a man of his word. He's the lord commander now.

Stannis is going to ride on Winterfell soon. He wants the North. He's going to take on the Bolton's to do it. He leaves the fate of the Wildling prisoners they captured to Jon. I've a feeling Jon will be more merciful than Stannis would be.

When Stannis leaves Ser Davos tries his best to persuade Jon to leave with them. He knows the horror bearing down on them from the North and doesn't want to see Jon die at the wall. If he helps them take back the North the coming fight will be that bit easier.

In Braavos Arya is questioned by the girl who ignored her earlier. Arya gets her questions wrong and takes a beating as a punishment. Arya picks up her sword to fight back when they are interrupted by Jaqen Hagar. To begin her training she must give up all her earthly possessions. Anything that would get her recognised as Arya Stark.

She dumps the lot in the sea. She means business. But she can't bring herself to dump her sword. That was given to her by her fave family member, Jon Snow. She can't keep it either so hides it in a wall outside the house of black and white. Now her training can begin.

Her Sister Sansa meanwhile is walking into a nightmare. She arrives at Winterfell with Littlefinger and is introduced to her fiance Ramsay. Ramsay acts all innocent and Sansa has to be nice to Roose even though he knifed her brother through the heart. Ramsay's girlfriend Myranda is fuming over Sansa.

Jon Snow has some tough decisions to make as new leader. He's decided to make Ser Allister Thorne first ranger. It's a good idea to keep a powerful man like him on your side. Janos Slynt is to be shipped off to Greyguard, a crumbling castle, to rebuild it.

He refuses and tells Jon to "stick his order up his bastard arse." Jon has to act. He can't let this go unpunished. If he does he'll lose all respect.

Janos is dragged outside. Now Jon will show the men what he's made of. He's his father's son. Ned Stark did his own dirty work. Jon will too. Janos' head is put on the chopping block. Jon swings his sword. With one act he shows hes not a man to trifle with. Stannis witnesses the execution. Now he has even more respect for Jon.

In King's Landing the high priest, the High Septon of the city is indulging in a spot of brothel fun *Gratuitous nudity klaxon*. His joy is interrupted when a group of Sparrows, the religious whackos, drag him out and make him walk naked through the streets.

In a rage he pleads with Cersei to destroy the cult and execute their leader, the High Sparrow. Cersei and her council don't take him seriously because of where the incident began.

Cersei meets with the High Sparrow personally. He's helping to feed the city's poor and homeless. He seems like a genuine man of god. Cersei tells him the High Septon wants him dead but that she imprisoned the High Septon instead.

She now puts the High Sparrow in charge of religious affairs. Hmm. What is she up to? Meanwhile she goes to see her medical man Qyburn and has him send a mysterious message to Littlefinger (ugh). In his laboratory lies the body of The Mountain. The Mountain isn't alive. But he isn't dead either. EEK.

In Winterfell Theon spots Sansas but hides his face. He doesn't want her to see him like this. Ramsay promises Littlefinger he'll be good to Sansa but they both know that's a lie. Roose turns up with the letter from Cersei.

He's troubled. He has an alliance with Littlefinger yet Littlefinger also has an alliance with the Lannister's. Littlefinger has a toe in both the north and the south and Roose is finding it hard to trust him. He wants to read Littlefinger's reply to the letter. What could be in that letter?????

Tyrion and Varys have arrived in Volantis to start their journey to Meereen. Tyrion has cabin fever from being stuck in a carriage with Varys. He needs to get out or he'll go mad. Varys warns him there's a bounty on his head but he doesn't care.

Tyrion and Varys explore the city. They come across a red witch, one of Melisandre's gang, preaching about the lord of light. That religion is taking hold everywhere. The witch notices Tyrion and seems to recognise him. Shit.

They hide out in a brothel. Varys unsurprisingly doesn't indulge. Tyrion tries to but his heart just isn't in such things these days. There's another familiar face there too. Jorah Mormont, drinking away his pain.

Tyrion walks outside and gets captured by Jorah. He's recognised him and he's going to use him as a way back into Daenerys' circle.

I liked this. It's a piece mover of an episode but loads of good stuff happened. A nice moment between Pod and Brienne. Sansa's storyline is about to kick off and the stuff at the wall was great. Plus it looks like two of the shows main characters, Tyrion and Daenerys are finally about to meet. About time.
