Game of Thrones S05 E07 - The Gift

At the wall Jon and Tormund are preparing for their trip to Hardhome. The Wildlings have decamped there and it's up to Jon to try and convince them that a Nights watch/Wildling alliance is in everyone's best interests. Good luck with that.

Ser Allister is very skeptical about the whole venture and has no problem with letting Jon know. Him and a lot of others are disgusted about the idea of joining the Wildlings.

Sam though, as always has Jon's back. Sam is great. I really hope he makes it. He supplies Jon with a bag of Dragon Glass. One of very few substances that can take down the White Walkers.

Maester Aemon is dying. The wall will soon be without their spiritual leader. Gilly and Sam comfort him in his death bed. With him gone there's only one Targaryen left in the world. He pleads with Sam & Gilly to get away from the North before it's too late.

In Winterfell Ramsay's assault on Sansa has left her broken. She's all alone and the only person she can reach out to from her former life is Theon. He disgusts her but he's all she has. She needs him to light a candle in the tower so Brienne can come to her rescue.

At the wall Maester Aemon's time has come. He passes away with Sam & Gilly by his side. The next day Sam speaks for him before his funeral pyre. He was a well liked and respected man. A sad scene.

Ser Allister finds time for a dig at Sam. He warns him he's losing all his friends. Pyp, Grenn, Aemon are dead and Jon is gone. He realises he's not safe in the place anymore.

Theon's so terrified of Ramsay he tells him Sansa asked for help. Ramsay responds by skinning alive the old woman who got Brienne's message to her. A very ott reaction. He of course rubs Sansa's face in his work.

Sansa takes a dig at Ramsay telling him bastards never do well in life. He responds by telling her Jon Snow is now Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. It's her first bit of news about Jon in years. She still has some family alive. She thought she was alone in the world.

In the North Stannis and his army have camped on their way to Winterfell. The cold is killing them. Davos warns Stannis that fighting in this weather is a terrible idea and that retreat to Castle Black is the best option. Stannis is having none of it. He's too proud for that. He's a fucking eejit.

After Davos storms out Stannis asks Melisandre if she's sure her visions of his victory are true. She claims they are but to be sure she asks for one big sacrifice. She wishes to give up Stannis's daughter Shireen to the Lord of Light. Stannis kicks her out of his tent. But his expression is unsettling. No, he wouldn't........would he?

At the wall 2 scummy Night's Watch men start threatening Gilly. She fights back and Sam pulls his sword to protect her. He's taken down quickly and she looks like she's in trouble. He takes a terrible beating but won't back down. Then, he finds out he has one friend left at the wall. Jon's direwolf Ghost snarls and the guards run away. Thank feck.

She tends to his wounds. She realises how much Sam cares for her. They make love for the first time. An aul bit of tenderness in the middle of a nightmare.

Near Meereen Tyrion and Jorah are being auctioned off by the pirates who captured them. Jorah is purchased by a man looking for fighters to use in the Meereen pits. Tyrion tries to convince the man to buy him to by attacking and beating a pirate who whipped him. He succeeds and him & Jorah are on their way to Meereen again.

In Meereen Daenerys is still sleeping with Daario. It's a surprisingly chaste scene by GOT standards. He advises her to kill all of Meereen's nobles before the pit fights start to stops the inevitable restart of slavery. She's done with all out massacres.

In King's Landing Lady Olenna Tyrell has her first encounter with The High Sparrow. She demands her grandchildren are released. Nope, not going to happen. She threatens to cut off Tyrell supplies to the capital but he doesn't give a shit.

He tells her if that happens the common folk will rise up. That rich family's like hers will be destroyed by them when hunger becomes stronger than fear. He has the upper hand in this conversation and she knows it. On the way out she gets a letter from Littlefinger (ugh).

Tommen is raging that his wife is imprisoned and he can't do anything about it. Cersei offers to speak to the High Sparrow on his behalf. Ha. Like she gives a damn about Margaery Tyrell. But it's always good to keep the King sweet.

Her brother/lover (I know, i know) Jaime is imprisoned in Dorne. Myrcella visits him and is angered that he thinks she was in danger. Bronn is in the cells below. The Sand Snakes are imprisoned in the cell across from him. Tyene taunts him, exposing herself to get him worked up *gratuitous nudity klaxon*

She then informs him that the wound she inflicted on him has poisoned him and that the poison works fast as his heartbeat rises. Her nudity has his heart going 90. Uh-oh. She has the antidote and teases him with it before giving it to him. These Sand Snake ladies are odd.

Littlefinger meets with Olenna in his brothel that was trashed by the Faith Militant. They talk about their part in the murder of Joffrey. She threatens to out him if he won't help her get her house in order. She offers her a gift. But of course we don't find out what it is yet.

In Meereen the fighting pits are open and blood is about to spill. Ser Jorah is about to show what he's made of. When he finds out Daenerys will be present his interest is very much piqued.

She's there for the fights but very much under protest. The brutality of it all appalls her but she's the leader of the city and must show a face. The noblemen of the city are loving it though.

Jorah sees she's about to leave so takes his chance. He bursts out and blitzes the competition. Daenerys is intrigued by this new fighter and inside Tyrion can sense something special is happening in the pit so runs out too.

Jorah has taken everyone out without killing them. Daenerys wishes to see his face and is horrified to see who he is. Her betrayer. She wants nothing to do with him but Tyrion's appearance changes her mind. Now she has a Lannister in her camp. Interesting.

Cersei goes to visit Margaery Tyrell in her cell and feigns horror at her condition. Secretly she's loving it. Margaery knows it too. The hate is pouring off the pair of them. It's deadly.

Margaery kicks her out of the cell. It's out in the open now. Both of them know where they stand. They won't be making nice anymore and this suits Cersei down to the ground. Tommen will always stand with his mother.

Cersei then visits the High Sparrow. She wants to ensure Margaery and Loras stay imprisoned. She's very smug about it all. And then that smugness backfires on her in a big way.

Lancel Lannister, her nephew/lover (I know, I know) is one of the Faith Militant too and he's come clean about his relationship with his aunt. A relationship very much frowned upon in this new religious King's Landing. He's also confessed to his part in Robert Baratheon's death.

Cersei's goose is cooked. The High Sparrow has her locked up and promises she'll face her judgement too.

That was a really good episode. Loads going on. Daenerys and Tyrion finally meet. Loads of internal strife at the wall and the pigeons have come home to roost in King's Landing with Cersei being arrested. All this and the next episode is a stunner from what I remember.
