Game Of Thrones S06 E10 - The Winds of Winter

The day of Cersei Lannister and Loras Tyrell's trials have arrived. They are to be judged by the High Sparrow in the Great sept. Tommen looks stressed. The High Sparrow is looking forward to it all.

Loads of people want to see Cersei's downfall. A ragged looking Loras is retrieved from his cell to face his fate. Margaery Tyrell and her father Mace are amongst the onlookers.  There's no sign of Cersei though. She's in the Red Keep with no intention of leaving. Maester Pycelle is on his way when one of Qyburn's little spies summons him away.

Everyone is there and Loras Tyrell confesses his sins right away to avoid trial. The huge crowd of onlookers is loving it. The Sept is jointed with nosey bastards. Margaery's heart breaks for her brother as he gives up his riches and his name to join the Faith Militant as his punishment.

There's still no sign of Cersei and her absence is starting to feel very noticeable. Mace Tyrell freaks out as the sign of the Faith Militant is carved into Loras's forehead. Cersei is looking very calm and collected in her chambers. She's in no rush anywhere.

Just as King Tommen goes to leave his chambers for his mother's trial, The Mountain turns up at his door and blocks his way. What on earth is Cersei up to? She wants to keep her son away from the Great Sept for some reason.

Lancel Lannister is sent towards the Red keep to collect Cersei. Margaery Tyrell can sense something is afoot. Lancel spots one of Qyburn's little spies outside the Sept and starts to follow him. He knows the little chap is up to no good. He pursues the child into the basement beneath the Sept.

In Qyburn's chambers Maester Pycelle arrives and is murdered by Qyburn's little spies. Good riddance. He was a snakey bollix anyway. In the basement Lancel has lost his quarry. Then he gets knifed in the side and falls to his knees. In the Sept above everyone is looking apprehensive. They can smell trouble brewing.

Cersei looks at the Great Sept from his chambers across the city. A wounded Lancel notices something in the dark distance and starts to crawl towards it. Green liquid seeps out of barrels all around him. Margaery informs the High Sparrow that something is wrong and asks why isn't Cersei or Tommen here?

Margaery's questions put doubt in the Sparrow's mind but he won't let anyone leave. The people in the room start to panic but the Faith Militant block the way. Below Lancel discovers the huge hallway he's crawled through is packed full of wildfire. Which explodes in his face.

The Great Sept explodes in a ball of flame taking out a good portion of King's Landing with it. Everyone in there is dead. The Sparrow, Margaery, Loras and Mace Tyrell and the vast majority of the Faith Militant. Kevan Lannister is evaporated. Septa Unella is captured too and left to be tortured horribly by the Mountain.

Cersei has won. But it's at a huge cost. From his chamber King Tommen has too witnessed the explosion. He knows the love of his life, Margaery, is dead. And so, he steps out of his window to fall to his own death. Maggi the frog's prophecy is now fulfilled. All of Cersei's children are dead.

In Castle Frey, Walder Frey is celebrating the retaking of Riverrun. Jaime and the Lannister army are there too. Bronn uses Jaime's fame to get himself a taste of the Frey women while Jaime and Walder talk of the death of the Blackfish.

Jaime's distaste for Walder is obvious and when Frey compares himself to Jaime he loses the plot. He tells Walder that he's nothing without the power of the Lannister's behind him. It's the truth. In Qyburn's lab Cersei identifies the body of her son. Her heart is mush. She has nothing left to live for but power.

Meanwhile across the country Sam has plenty to live for. Himself and Gilly and baba Sam have just arrived at Old Town. They report to the Citadel. No one know's he was coming due to the madness at the wall so he'll have to wait a while until it's all sorted out. Meanwhile he's granted access to the library. It's the place he's always dreamed of. Good man Sam.

In Winterfell Davos confronts Melisandre her about her part in the death of Shireen. He wants to kill her. He's distraught. She tries to explain why it happens but there's no talking away the deliberate death of a child.

She also tries to convince Jon and Davos of her importance in the coming battles. He's having none of it and exiles her from the north with the promise she'll be hanged if she returns. It's a weird one for Jon as she's the woman who resurrected him after his death in Castle Black.

As she leaves Jon and Sansa discuss who'll be the lead of the Stark family. He says she deserves it because it was her who brought in the Knights Of The Vale with Littlefinger (ugh).

She apologises for not telling him about her Knights of the Vale plan. They realise they need to trust each other. As far as they know they are the only family they have left. She also informs him that a white raven has arrived from the Citadel. That only signifies one thing. Winter has offically arrived. And no one knows how long it might last.

In Dorne, Olenna Tyrell is meeting with Ellaria Sand and the godawful Sand Snakes. She's in bits over the loss of her family. Both houses have been done wrong by the Lannister's. Ellaria wants an allegiance with the Tyrells and she has a man who will help them both get it. Lord Varys!!

In Meereen Daenerys informs Daario Nahaaris that he won't be coming with her to Westeros. He's to stay in Meereen to keep the peace. She can't bring her lover anyway because she may have to marry someone powerful to make an allegiance. Daario realises she doesn't love him at all. She's all about the power plays.

Tyrion had a hand in her decision to leave behind Daario. He's not happy to do it but it made sense. It's about to happen at least. She's about to come to Westeros and she's about to play the game of thrones. But first she makes Tyrion Hand Of The Queen. A fine honour indeed.

In Castle Frey, Walder is alone. None of his sons are to be seen. The Lannister's are gone too. He's brought his dinner by a servant girl. A pie. A pie made of his son's minced bodies. The servant girl peels off her face to reveal Arya Stark. She lets Walder know who she is before she slices his throat. Revenge, horrible revenge for her mother and brother.

In Winterfell Sansa is approached by a smarmy looking Littlefinger (ugh). She knows what he wants. He knows what he wants too. He wants to sit on the Iron throne one day and he wants her by his side. She walks away from him. GWAN SANSA. GET AWAY FROM THAT SLIMY FUCK AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

In the North, Benjen Stark has brought Bran and Meera down to the wall. He rides off as he cannot pass the wall as he's....well, technically he's dead. Will we ever see him again???

Bran has another vision. He's back at the tower of Joy in Dorne seeing his father Ned as a young man. Ned hears a woman scream in the tower. It's his sister Lyanna. She's given birth but she's dying. Lyanna hands him the baba and Ned promises to protect him and raise him as his own. The baby is Jon Snow.

OK. Jon isn't Ned's son. He was raised as a bastard when he wasn't one. He's the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Jon's a Targaryen! He has a legitimate claim to the throne. He's also Ned's nephew. So Catelyn Stark hated him for all those years for no reason. That's too sad to even think about. Oh man.

Jon meanwhile is in Winterfell. The families of the North are not happy about having to side with Wildling's and moan amongst themselves. Little Lyanna Mormont stands up and shames them all for their infighting. 11 years old, in a room full of men and all of them feel smaller than her. She is awesome.

They grudgingly decide to declare their allegiances to the Stark's. The North is united once again Jon Snow is declared the King of the North. Long live the King. Meanwhile the smile leaves Sansa's face when she notices that scumbag Littlefinger watching her through it all.

Jaime and Bronn are leading the Lannister army back from Riverrun when they see the smokes still rising above King's Landing. He gets back just in time to see Cersei crowned Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and he realises this means his son Tommen is dead. Cersei has the person in charge? Jesus.

As season 6 finishes the last thing we see is Theon & Yara Greyjoy sailing away from Meereen on Iron Island ships packed with the Unsullied soldiers and the Dothraki horde. They are Westeros bound. In the lead ship is Tyrion and Daenerys and above them flying through the sky are her 3 dragons.

A superb finale. That opening 20 minutes in King's Landing is as tense as the show has ever been. Amazing to see Cersei wipe out her enemies in one go. This ties up a few loose ends and clears the table of a lot of supporting characters. The end game is coming and it's time to start moving the main characters into place.
