Game Of Thrones S07 E05 - Eastwatch

Jaime gets pulled from the Blackwater river and him and Bronn lay recovering amongst the smoke and bodies of Daenerys victory. Bronn is fuming with his buddy. But not about their friendship. He wants to get paid.

Jaime realises the Lannister army hasn't a hope against Daenerys. If one dragon could damage them this much just imagine what three could do. Feeling defeated, this is a new one for him.

Tyrion wanders through the decimated battlefield, among the ashes of his former army. You get the feeling he's feeling a wee bit conflicted. As he walks, the Lannister survivors are marched by the Dothraki in front of Daenerys and her dragon. She's not Cersei though. She'll give them a chance of survival.

The 50 or so survivors are offered the choice to bend the knee to her. Most of them do, knowing they really have no other option. A handful stay standing, Randyll and Dickon (haha) Tarly included. They won't bow to this foreign invader, this woman.

Drogon burns them to a crisp despite Tyrion's plea for mercy on their behalf. Daenerys has to prove she means business. The remaining standers quickly drop to their knees. This act has alienated Tyrion big time and unbeknownst to him, poor Sam Tarly has lost his father and his brother.

A ragged Jaime returns to his sister Cersei and admits the war against Daenerys is unwinnable. Dothraki + Dragons = defeat. Cersei won't give up that easily. Jaime then disgusts her more with his next utterance.

Tyrion had nothing to do with Joffrey's death. Olenna admitted her. Cersei is bitterly disappointed that Jaime allowed her such an easy death. Fuck know's what horrible punishment Cersei thought have conjured up for her.

On Dragonstone Jon watches as Drogon returns & lands right in front of him. But he's calm. Jon is too. Drogon allows Jon to rub his muzzle as Daenerys watches on. He's the only person other than her who's ever gotten to do this. Can the dragon smell his Targaryen blood?

Daenerys informs Jon that she succeeded in her attempt to cripple the Lannister army. Their conversation is interrupted by the return of Ser Jorah Mormont. How the hell did he get there so fast? She's so happy to see him cured and ok. He bows before her and gets introduced to Jon. Jon and him share an acquaintance, Ser Jeor Mormont.

In Winterfell a warging Bran has taken over a flock of ravens and sent them north to seek out the White Walkers. Before long they've spotted the monstrous swarm marching south. It seems like there's millions of them. The Night King spots the flock and Bran is shaken out of his vision. He asks that news of it be sent to all corners of the kingdom.

The messages travel across Westeros with amazing speed. The place must be the size of Offaly. The maester's in the citadel don't believe the threat is that bad but Sam vouches for Bran's abilities. The other maesters mock him but Ebrose looks worried.

Sam asks Ebrose to send out the word that people should prepare. It can't do any harm. Plus he wants to be allowed to study the ancient forbidden texts to see if he can find anything that could stop the army of the dead and the white walkers for good. Ebrose has to think before he acts. Sam storms off.

Tyrion and Varys are discussing the execution of the Tarly's. Daenerys brutality has them worried. Varys asks Tyrion that he plead with her to lay off the violence. He doesn't want her to be seen as a tyrant. Varys has also had a sneaky look at Bran's message for Jon. Other than bad news the scroll also tells Jon that Arya and Bran are back.

Tyrion has a plan for Cersei. Someone needs to bring a zombie from the North to King's Landing to prove to Cersei that fighting needs to stop and the North is the big issue. Tyrion will also sneak into King's Landing to persuade Jaime to make sure Cersei will allow them in to parlay.

Jon and Jorah volunteer to go beyond the wall and capture one of the living dead. Jorah wants to prove himself and Jon is the only person there to have seen the dead so he has to go.

In Winterfell, the lords of the North are unhappy Jon is gone so ask Sansa to become the Queen of the North. Arya misunderstands what's going on and thinks Sansa is making a sneaky play for power. She lets her know what she thinks and Sansa denies it all. Arya's smile is worrying me now.

Davos and Tyrion sneak into King's Landing. Bronn leads Jaime to Tyrion. A surprised Jaime is enraged over the death of their father but despite it he still loves his brother. He requests an audience with Cersei once Jon Snow has proof of the threat from the north. Plus he tells Jaime Daenerys wants a truce to discuss the threat facing them all.

Davos goes to his old haunt in the slums of King's Landing. Who does he find there? Why it's Gendry! Remember him! He needs Gendry to come with him. Gendry is only too happy to get away from this dreary place and him and his war hammer (not a euphemism) follow Davos out the door.

Down on the beach Gendry and Davos prepare to sail away when two King's Guards stop and question them. Tyrion appears at just the wrong time and when the guards recognise him Gendry has to splatter them with his weapon. It's grim to see what a giant hammer can do to a face.

Gendry's well able to handle himself. He'll come in handy in the war ahead. Plus his legitimate claim to the throne as Robert Baratheon's son will come in handy for Daenerys.

Jaime tells Cersei about his meeting with Tyrion. She's so angry she's spitting. She thinks  the army of the dead is a joke but she will take a ceasefire. You know well she's planning her own trap for Daenerys. Cersei is always 3 steps ahead.

Oh and by the way. She's pregnant. With her brother's child. HMMMMM. I don't believe her. Maggi the frogs prophecy foretold she'd have 3 kids and all 3 would die. This all happened. You get the sense she's lying to keep Jaime close.

At Dragonstone Jon meets Gendry. They both bond over their bastard status. They're fathers knew and trusted each other so why shouldn't they. A nice scene, blunt and funny, direct and to the point. More of this show should be like this. Gendry's heard about the expedition north and volunteers to go. That's 3 loopers going beyond the wall so far.

Jorah says goodbye to both Tyrion and Daenerys. Daenerys says goodbye to Jon and if i'm not mistaken she's giving him goo goo eyes. HMMMM. Tyrion and Daenerys wish them all well in their suicidal mission north. if this doesn't work they are all screwed.

In the citadel Sam is researching White Walkers for weaknesses with Gilly. While she's researching she discovers Rhaegar Targaryen was remarried in secret in Dorne. It's not uttered out loud but that could only be to Lyanna Stark. Which means Jon isn't a bastard. HUGE NEWS. This also means he has a claim to the Iron Throne too!

Sam is so busy that he doesn't take one bit of notice. Oh Sam. You lemon. He can't get any work done here so he storms off to the forbidden library and steals a load of books. In the middle of the night him and Gilly and baba Sam leave the Citadel and head north. Sam is giving up his future to head out and do something practical himself.

In Winterfell Littlefinger (ugh) is up to no good. Arya thinks she's spying on him but everything he does is for her to see. He has the scroll Cersei once forced Sansa to write, a letter asking Robb to bend the knee to Joffrey.

He hides it knowing Arya will find it and knowing she'll take it as a sign of Sansa's treachery. The horrible cunt. He's forcing a wedge between the two sisters in the hope they'll destroy each other and he can pick up the pieces.

Jon, Gendry, Jorah and Davos arrive at the wall and are greeted by Tormund. Tormund and Jorah are immediately at each other's throat because of Jorah's father, the ex lord commander of the wall. There's 3 other people there too. 3 men captured by the Night's watch and locked up in the cell. It's only the Hound, Beric Dondarrion and Thoros Of Myr.

Gendry is still angry at Beric for selling him to Melisandre but now they all have a common cause. To take on the army of the dead. They decide to team up to capture a specimen to show Cersei. The Magnificent Seven ( plus a few others ) head out into the blizzard. A hair raisingly awesome spectacle.

A piece moving episode but an excellent one. 4 or 5 plotlines are being set up at once here for the final two episodes of this season and beyond. That final scene though. Wow. All these awesome warriors together. So many reunions too. I love it. I do not love the Arya/Sansa stuff though. That is stressful. The sooner that scumbag Littlefinger gets his the better. One thing though. The rapid movement around Westeros is getting sillier and sillier. For a show full of dragons and zombies it's a bit far fetched.
